HDPE
Fusion
On-site HDPE pipe welding by butt fusion. From 2 inches to 24 inches and above.
What is HDPE fusion?
HDPE fusion is the process of joining high-density polyethylene pipes by applying heat and pressure. Unlike gluing (PVC) or bolting (steel), fusion creates a monolithic joint — meaning the connection becomes as strong as the pipe itself. There is no weak point, no flange, no possibility of leakage at the joint.
Durax performs HDPE fusion directly on your jobsites with certified equipment and trained personnel.
Fusion Methods
We are proficient in the industry-recognized butt fusion technique:
- Butt fusionThe standard method for large-diameter pipes. Pipe ends are heated at controlled temperature then pressed together to create a continuous joint. Used for 2" to 24"+ diameters and long discharge pipelines.
Advantages of HDPE
High-density polyethylene offers considerable advantages over traditional materials such as steel, ductile iron, or PVC:
- Corrosion resistance — HDPE does not rust, scale, or corrode, and resists aggressive chemicals found in mining and industrial environments
- Flexibility — HDPE tolerates ground movement, differential settlement, and vibration without cracking
- Lightweight — an HDPE pipe weighs about 1/8 the weight of a steel pipe of the same diameter, reducing handling and transportation costs
- 50+ year lifespan — with minimal maintenance
- Monolithic joints — zero leakage at connections, reduced water loss and infiltration
- Freeze resistance — HDPE can expand up to 8% without breaking, making it ideal for installations in Quebec and Ontario
Diameters and Specifications
Durax fuses HDPE piping in a full range of diameters and pressure ratings:
- Diameters: 2" (50 mm) to 24" (600 mm) and above based on project needs
- DR: 7, 9, 11, 13.5, 17, 21, 26 — based on required service pressure
- Standards: PE4710, PE100, CSA B137.1 and AWWA C906 certifications
- Fittings: elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, flange-HDPE adapters
Applications
Our HDPE fusion services cover a wide range of field applications:
